Each person is asked to bring an unwrapped gift

Holiday Toy and This wish list consists of toys and supplies that can be enjoyed by hospitalized patients throughout the year (we kindly request no holiday-themed or packaged gifts). This list includes games and supplies that are needed for group activities, as well as items for patients to use in their hospital rooms. Please note that for health and safety reasons, we are only able to accept new and unwrapped items in their original packaging.

ask you for your (or your group’s) name, address, a brief description
of the gift and estimated value. You or your group will receive a
receipt from the Foundation for your generosity and thoughtfulness
in a week to ten days. |

Letter from Sally Dear Ifishers, The holiday season is a special time, filled with love, laughter and celebration. For a child spending the holidays in the hospital, this time of year can be difficult. At Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital, we make sure to remember every child with a special gift during the holidays. A new toy brightens any child’s day, but it can also have therapeutic powers. Consider the following story: “Jeremy” was a 17-year-old patient who had suffered severe head injuries in a car accident. He was in a coma for two months and when he emerged, he was not the same boy. He could perform basic functions, but his eyes did not focus on anyone and he had not spoken since before the accident. We were handing out toys in the Children’s Hospital, and one of our nurses showed Jeremy a hand-held electronic game that could spell out words and numbers. At first he did not want to take it, but then he hesitantly raised his hand to accept the gift. As his parents and nurses watched, he slowly typed out his name, then turned and handed the toy to his father. From then on, Jeremy rapidly improved. Something about the game had caused his brain to re-engage and he became more communicative, eventually regaining his power of speech. His story, though truly amazing, is just one example of the healing power of toys and play. Emanuel Children’s Hospital uses the toys we receive at the holidays throughout the year to help stimulate and engage young patients undergoing treatment and rehabilitation. As you
can imagine, the number of toys we need is great, and this is where
you come in! We invite you to help Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital
make this holiday and all year long a special time for children like
Jeremy by providing toys and other items from the enclosed wish list.
With support from the community, we can be sure to give every child
a gift at our holiday party and keep our shelves stocked with the supplies
Child Life and our other pediatric therapy programs need. If you do not have time to shop for items on our wish list but still want to remember our kids at this special time of year, please consider making a cash donation in support of our Child Life Program. Your check may be made payable to Emanuel Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Child Life Fund and can be mailed to the address below.
